 The Art of Sorcery.
 Analogous patterns in nature

You've most likely read the definitions of both "Art and  "Sorcery"
in the dictionary at one time or another. But a dictionary is only a
source of information about "words." Where they come from, how
they've been used in the past and the most common current uses
with some examples. So the information is bogus when it comes to
anything that has been around so long that there is way too much
information to include in a definition. Both Art and Sorcery have
been around as long as people have. "It would be the same as
taking a close up photograph of a tire and calling it a car."

That last sentence is in quotation marks to draw attention to it.
Because the root of Sorcery is "analogy" and that sentence is
an example of analogy. Analogy is a comparison. An analogy
can clarify things and bring about understanding. Understanding
is the difference between information and knowledge.

 (A) "There are twenty ducks in my yard," (this, is information).

 (B) "I live near a duck pond." (this, is information).

 (C) "This morning I scattered fifty pounds of bird food around
in my yard," (this, is information).

Put (B) and (C) together without (A) and you're likely to come up
with, "I wouldn't be surprised if you end up with twenty ducks in
 your yard."

Bits of the correct information put end to end, create a whole
picture which can be understood and once understood become
 knowledge.

Sorcery is a means of acquiring knowledge.

Acquiring knowledge is a process of discovery. To pull the blanket
back and see what is there.

"Power gained from the assistance or control of evil spirits."
If you are one of the many people who are hoping that this part of
the definition of Sorcery is true, you're in for some disappointment.
I don't know where this notion came from but it's not true and it
doesn't even make any sense. I don't like to speculate, but if I had
to, I'd say it was imagined by people who didn't understand what they
were seeing, during a time when belief in evil spirits was a common
way to explain the ills of life. I've seen translations of an ancient  Sumerian
text where one had the word "Demon" and the other had the word
"Disease" in the same place. Maybe they were the same thing at one
 time, but they're not anymore.
It is also possible that Sorcerers have promoted this idea as a way of
protecting themselves by inspiring fear. I have also heard of people
being killed because others thought they were in league with evil  spirits.
So if inspiring fear was the idea, it wasn't a good one.
Throwing the bones, a primitive type of Sorcery, some claim the bones
are   influenced by Ancestral spirits. This helps promote  the idea that
there may be evil Sorcerers (as the ancestor could be evil ).
Three things I do know for certain. Life is scary at times, people trip
too hard and people can be dangerous.

There are beings that one may encounter in life that are not human.
Their usefulness as an aid to divination has not been established.
Nor has the fact of them being either good or evil. Nor have their
origin or purpose been truly proven.

I like to be critical and by this I don't mean negative or to criticize.
I mean I like to see things clearly and truly in order to make fair
judgements about them. If we don't exercise patience and we jump
to conclusions and don't connect the elements (bits of information)
properly, the conclusions we come to and the knowledge we acquire
will be flat out wrong. Any future application of that knowledge will
 not work.

This brings us back to analogy. Analogy has been the foundation of
interpreting signs and seasons. We see it in casting Lots, which is
where we get the word Sorcery  (Latin Sort- Sors). Each lot might
represent a certain destiny and which one you chose reveals
success or failure in matters ahead. The practice of making a choice
based on who draws the short straw is still in use today. Chance
decides your fate as long as you agree to commit yourself to it's
judgement. If one of ten people has to jump out of a plane to save
the other nine, and you draw short straw, you may or may not
willingly jump out of the plane. This is a case where agreement
 comes in.
Divine Analogy as a term, was used to foretell what the Heavens
had to say. When the planet Mars (the god of war) opposed the
Moon (which ruled over the home) by Divine Analogy one may
predict strife or conflict in the home, depending other factors of
 course.
I use Astrology here merely as an example, not to include it as
 a tool of Sorcery.

There is such a thing as a Bad Analogy. To assume that drawing
an illustrated card at any given time has any bearing on the subject
at hand is folly. It's also widely practiced and supported. Thus giving
the Art of Sorcery a bad rep.

By way of Analogy: I have heard people say, "all Doctors are idiots,
I won't go to a Doctor." Yet I've known Doctors that have eased
suffering and saved peoples lives. So "all" Doctors are not idiots.

All self proclaimed Sorcerers can not be con artists.
All self proclaimed Sorcerers can not be fools.
I haven't met any self proclaimed Sorcerers that were not con artist
or fools, but I know there must be some, somewhere, just by the shear
number of people on this planet and the fact that reflection and
 opposition are part of nature.
Like any subject it requires study, and personal growth.
